A research group that builds what it recommends
e-Communications Research Group is a registered Malawian firm specialising in ICT-for-development consultancy, combining academic depth with field-proven engineering.
eCRG was founded in 2012 by Associate Professor Chomora Mikeka, who holds a PhD in Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering from Yokohama National University, Japan, and serves as a visiting professor at the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) at the University of Rwanda's College of Science and Technology.
The firm provides consultancy across seven specialist areas: software development, broadband internet connectivity, the Internet of Things, antenna and RF engineering, energy-aware systems, spectrum-use audits, and baseline surveys, increasingly extended into ICT and science, technology & innovation policy, and technology needs assessment.
Across 17 years of combined hands-on experience, the team has built automated climate-data rescue software using optical character recognition, deployed low-cost data-transmission infrastructure, designed wireless sensor networks for rainfall, temperature and humidity, supported national weather-forecast and early-warning systems, digitised survey data collection, and delivered ICT capacity-building to government departments.
